What is TDEE?
Total daily energy expenditure is an estimate of the calories you use in a day, including activity. This page starts with Mifflin-St Jeor basal calories and multiplies by the activity level you select.

Basal calories are the resting estimate. TDEE multiplies them by an activity factor so the day includes movement. The same person can land on two different totals by picking two different rows, which is why the factor is printed in the steps.
Metric and imperial inputs meet in kilograms and centimeters before the equation runs. A height of 5 feet 10 inches is 70 inches, then 177.8 centimeters. You can check that conversion in the steps.
The presets are starting points: balanced 30/40/30, higher protein 40/30/30, and lower carb 35/25/40. Custom percents must add to 100. Protein grams are protein calories divided by 4. Fat grams use 9. The split is not a judgment about which diet is better.
Nothing here is medical advice. If you want the loss and gain calorie rows instead of grams, use the calorie calculator. Both pages share the basal equation so the maintenance number matches when the inputs match.

Sedentary is 1.2, light is 1.375, moderate is 1.55, active is 1.725, and very active is 1.9. Pick the row that describes a normal week. A single workout does not move you into the highest row.
You choose a preset or type your own percents. Protein and carbohydrate use 4 calories per gram. Fat uses 9. The three percents have to add up to 100. A 2,000 calorie day at 30/40/30 is 150 g protein, 200 g carbohydrate, and about 67 g fat.
No. It is a planning estimate from the numbers you type. It does not know your labs, injuries, or medications. Do not use it as a meal plan for a child or as treatment. The calorie calculator is the companion page for loss and gain targets.
Metric uses kilograms and centimeters. Imperial uses pounds, feet, and inches. Age, weight, and height have to be greater than zero. Empty fields and negatives are rejected.
Under 18, the page warns that the equation was studied in adults. Heights and weights far outside a usual adult range also warn you to check the unit. The math still runs so you can see the figure, but the warning stays next to it.
