How do I calculate a tip on a restaurant bill?
Enter the bill amount and tip percent (for example 15%, 18%, or 20%). The tip calculator shows tip amount and total. Optionally split the total among people.

A tip is a percent of the bill, added on top, then often shared by the people at the table. Enter the bill before tip, the percent you want to leave, and how many people are splitting the total. The page shows the tip, the full amount, and the share of each, including the tip share. A common US restaurant range is 15 to 20 percent.
Money is rounded to the nearest cent. Fifteen percent of 32.50 is 4.875, which rounds to 4.88, so the total is 37.38. When three people split a 10 bill with a 10 percent tip, the tip is 1.00 and the total is 11.00. Each person's share rounds to 3.67. Those cents may not add back to the exact total, because each share is rounded on its own. That is normal for a quick split. The party size has to be a whole number from 1 to 100.
The bill cannot be negative. A zero bill produces a zero tip so you can see the shape of the result before you type. Tip percent has to sit between 0 and 100. A blank, a fraction of a person, or a huge group is rejected instead of dividing by zero or inventing a person. Tax is included only when the bill you typed already includes it. This page does not add a separate tax line.
The math stays in this tab. It is not a payment app, and it does not know a local custom beyond the percent you pick. Preset buttons only fill the box. Use the percentage calculator when you need a discount or a percent change that is not a tip. Bill splitting is part of this tip tool. It is not its own address.
