About Compress PDF
A PDF can grow for reasons that have nothing to do with how many pages you see. Editors leave unused objects behind, and some exports store the same font or image data more than once. This compressor runs in your browser. You choose Rewrite or Stronger after you see the page count and the original size.
Rewrite rebuilds the file and keeps the pages in order. Words you can select stay selectable when the original allowed it. It does not photograph each page or turn text into a picture. A file that is already tightly packed may barely change, and a stack of scans will not shrink. Compare the sizes and the percent saved, and keep the original if the rewrite is larger.
Stronger re-renders each page as a JPEG and builds a new PDF. Use it when a scan or a photo-heavy file is too big to send. Small, Balanced, High, and Archive set the resolution and JPEG quality. The slider picks a quality from 10 to 95, and a lower number is a smaller or equal file. Text in a Stronger file is a picture, so you cannot select it. After it finishes, the page shows a first-page preview.
Nothing is uploaded. The tool refuses a file over 25 MB, a file that is not a real PDF, and a file that will not open. Password-protected files fail closed instead of being guessed. Documents with more than 200 pages are refused so the tab does not run out of memory. One file is processed at a time. There is no promised percent and no target file size. Split PDF can pull out the pages you need, and PDF to Word can lift selectable text. Keep the original until you have compared the two sizes.
