How do I calculate work hours for a timesheet?
Enter clock-in and clock-out times (and breaks if needed). The hours calculator totals elapsed work time so you can fill a timesheet accurately.
Add hours between clock times, with breaks and overnight shifts
Times stay in this browser. An end time earlier than the start counts as an overnight shift. This is not payroll.

The hours calculator measures the gap between two clock times and can add several rows into a timesheet. Enter a start, an end, and any unpaid break in minutes. From 08:00 to 17:30 with no break is 9 hours 30 minutes, shown as 9h 30m and as 9.50 decimal hours. People looking for a time calculator usually want this duration math.
If the end time is earlier than the start, the shift is treated as crossing midnight. From 22:15 to 01:00 is 2 hours 45 minutes, not a negative number. The same start and end is zero hours, which is useful when you are still filling the row. A break is subtracted after the span is known. Fifteen minutes off a three-hour morning, plus a four-hour afternoon, is 6 hours 45 minutes.
Times must look like 09:00 or 9:00 and must fall between 00:00 and 23:59. 24:00 and 12:60 are rejected. The break has to be zero or a positive whole number of minutes, and it cannot be longer than the shift. An empty timesheet is rejected so the total does not pretend there was a shift. Decimal hours are rounded to two places for display, while the minute total stays exact. Minutes convert to hours by that decimal figure.
These figures stay in the browser. They are duration only. Extra hours can be another row, but this page does not price them or apply an overtime rule. A pay rate belongs on the finance tool linked beside this page. For a question about calendar days rather than a clock, use the date calculator. If you work past midnight, put the whole shift on one row instead of splitting it at 00:00, unless you want those pieces counted separately.
