A box is the easiest picture: three edges at right angles, multiplied. A cube is the same idea with one edge used three times. A square pyramid is one third of the box that shares its base and height. A triangular prism uses half of base times height for the triangle, then multiplies by the length of the prism.
A cylinder is the area of a circle times height. A cone is one third of that cylinder. A sphere is four thirds π times the radius cubed, and a hemisphere is half of that, which is two thirds π r³. An ellipsoid uses the three radii in place of a single radius cubed.
Enter lengths in one unit. The page cubes the conversion when it changes systems, so a 1 inch cube is 1 cubic inch and about 16.387 cubic centimeters. Liters follow from cubic centimeters: 1,000 cm³ is a liter, and 1 cm³ is a milliliter. US gallons use 231 cubic inches.
The unit toggle does not change a number you already typed. If you switch from centimeters to inches, type the measurement again in inches. That avoids a silent conversion of a number you meant to keep.
