What is the slope formula?
Slope is rise over run: the change in y divided by the change in x. On this page that is (y₂ − y₁) ÷ (x₂ − x₁). A positive slope climbs as x grows. A negative slope falls.
Find the slope between two points, the line equation, the angle, and the grade, with steps and a graph.

Two points decide a line when they are not the same point. The run is how far x moves. The rise is how far y moves. Divide rise by run and you have the slope. If the run is zero, there is nothing to divide by. The page calls that slope undefined and writes the line as x equal to the shared x-coordinate.
Order does not change the slope. Swapping the points flips the sign of both rise and run, and the quotient stays the same. Identical points are rejected, because one point is not a line.
Slope-intercept form is the one most algebra classes ask for first: y = mx + b. Point-slope form is useful when you already trust one point and do not want to compute b yet. Standard form multiplies through by the denominators so x and y have integer coefficients, with the x coefficient kept non-negative.
You can also start from an angle or a grade percent. Grade percent is the slope times 100, a figure used for roofs and ramps. An angle of 90° is vertical. The optional distance places a second point along the line so the page can show a length and a midpoint.
The drawing is an SVG of the line and the points you entered. It is a check, not a plotting tool for a data set. Axes appear when zero sits inside the window. Copy the readout if you need it in an assignment, and use the fraction calculator when you want to practice the fraction steps on their own.

Subtract the x-coordinates to get the run, subtract the y-coordinates to get the rise, then divide. The steps list those subtractions with your numbers, and the graph marks both points.
The run is zero, so the line is vertical and rise ÷ run has no value. The equation is x = a constant. A horizontal line is the other extreme: its slope is 0, written y = a constant.
Slope-intercept form is y = mx + b. m is the slope and b is the y value when x is 0. Point-slope form keeps a known point, and standard form clears fractions so the coefficients are integers.
The angle with the positive x-axis is the arctangent of the slope. Grade percent is the slope times 100, which is the rise for a run of 100. A vertical line is 90° and its grade is undefined.
Parallel lines share a slope. A perpendicular slope is the negative reciprocal: flip the fraction and change the sign. A horizontal line is perpendicular to a vertical line.
