How do you add fractions with different denominators?
Find the least common denominator, the least common multiple of the denominators. Rewrite each fraction with that denominator, add the numerators, and divide by the greatest common factor. 1/2 + 1/3 uses LCD 6: 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6. The steps also show the cross-multiplied form over the product of the denominators.
